Hi and welcome to our first newsletter.
We've had some great forward motion in our efforts to help end hunger in
America. Your actions as 1 of 52 participants have allowed us to set up
a working model program here in Rhode Island and we have now started grouping
of 52 in two other states: New York and California.
One of my goals when starting the effort was to bring together as many like
thinking artists as possible. I know you are all out there. We have simply
created the opportunity for you all to now know each other. So this is a
good place to start.
First 1 of 52 Hunger Event out of Tri-state Area
Raises $522 to Benefit Second Harvest
The popular country-western band Savannah Sky donated the proceeds
from their April 23rd show at Club NCI in New Hyde Park, NY to Second Harvest.
The band staged this event as part of their annual commitment to an ongoing
music hunger program - The 1 of 52 AHN. There was also a successful food
drive held with food donations going to the North Shore Inn, a shelter and
soup kitchen in Glen Cove, NY. Food drives are encouraged at these events
to tie the shows in with the local community.
The 1 of 52 AHN commits 52 performance artists in each state, each representing
one week of the year, to donate proceeds from one show annually to help
end hunger in America. "This program turns funding and attention to
the the solutions of ending hunger by supporting the national organization
of Second Harvest and its network of food banks. We've set up a model program
here in Rhode Island and are rolling the concept out nationally. Working
performers at any level can participate and are welcome to become part of
this effort by calling toll free 1-888-HUNGERØ." - Steve Maciel,
Coordinator.
The 1 Of 52 AHN is sponsored by the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. 100%
of all proceeds go directly to hunger relief.
Savannah Sky spokesperson Nina Gordon said, "We've been involved in
many charitable causes, but this one is a unique effort of musicians across
the country to end hunger in America and we're proud to be a part of it."
1 of 52 AHN Show Benefits
St. Mary's Food Pantry
Ted Donovan and Eric Neff bring their unique blend of acoustical
music spiced with humor to a benefit show at Morgans Family Restaurant and
Pub, Old Post Rd. in Charlestown. The duo is participating in this ongoing
music hunger program by donating proceeds from their performance to St.
Mary's Food Pantry in Carolina, RI. In addition to the direct donation by
the musicians, the food pantry will also be the recipient of a food drive
held that day. Non-perishable food items can be brought to the show on Sunday
afternoon, May 25th from 3 to 7 PM. There is no cover charge.
