Stephen M. Maciel, Editor

Hi and welcome to our third newsletter.

Wow, what a year for our program. 1998 should be a pip and the next decade should be startling.

Some upcoming 1 of 52 Hunger Events:

·Starting mid January, Chuck Smith & Friends play for the cause every Wednesday around lunchtime at The Gathering Ground, Main St, E. Greenwich. Bring a food item - get a free coffee! This offer is extended at anytime in an ongoing food collection drive by the good folks at The Gathering Ground.

·At Westerly's First Night Celebration, acoustic duo Carlos and Lori perform to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank from 7 to 9 at the Colonial Theatre.

·On Friday, 1/2, Grumpy Ole Men will be playing at The Station in W. Warwick donating a portion of their proceeds to the RICFB and collecting food for the same.

·Breaking news - April 4th, New London CT, Bill Pere and the LUNCH Ensemble will host a 1 of 52 Hunger Event with Steve Chapin and the original members of Harry Chapin's band! More news on this event as it becomes available.

We're now have 22 weeks assigned in RI, 1 in CT, 1 in CA, 1 in NH, 4 in New York and even our 1st of 52 in Canada. Yes folks, we're going global.

Speaking of global... we are on the web. Visit our home page at Http://members.aol.com
/hungerzero. If you have a web site, please link us in and send us your link for us to do the same.

And yes, you read it correctly. Our new fellow 1 of 52 member out of the fine state of New York is American music legend Mr. Pete Seeger. We couldn't be happier to welcome his addition to our grassroots movement to help end hunger in America... and beyond.

Awhile back, Chuck Smith had met Pete at the Corn Festival in NY. He mentioned our program to him. Mr. Seeger was a little reluctant to take on any new projects at this stage of life. I sent Pete a follow up letter. When I assured him that we weren't asking him to do anything more than what he already does to help the cause, we merely wish to count him in our national forum... he agreed to add his name to the 1 of 52 Hunger Program.

Many of you know other socially conscious artists who are already taking action annually to help end hunger. Please do me a favor and explain this aspect to them. Ask them to let us count them in also.

Start Planning For a 1 of 52 Compilation Album?

If you have a song you would like to have considered for an upcoming 1 of 52 Compilation Album, please contact me. The song must have a socially conscious theme preferably dealing with hunger and/or related issues. The album is slated for release on Rhode Island's/America's newest up and coming music label - Open Door Records.

Peace and happiness to you and your's in the new year. Stay in touch. We love to hear from you. Steve
