The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network
The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network Newsletter
Electronic Version
Volume 6 October 1999
Stephen M. Maciel, Editor
Hi and welcome to our sixth newsletter.
First thing I'd like you to take note of is my new address. Nancy and I
have bought a lovely home in the country. This should be my permanent address.
In spite of the great interruption of moving my life and home office, we've
made some excellent progress. We've met and surpassed our first goal
of a minimum 52 artists permanently in place in Rhode Island (we now
have 56 here).
The program is now up in running in 11 states. Our tally in each states
is: Florida 22, New York 10, Connecticut 2, Massachusetts 2, Missouri 2,
Maine 1, New Hampshire 1, Pennsylvania 1, California 1, Washington 1
(Canada also has its 1st of 52). So far, a total of 101 artists/groups
have banded together toward one common goal: ending hunger. It is inevitable
that every state will soon have its own minimum of 52 artists, each permanently
representing each week of the year.
It's exciting to note that as we're seeing some of our local artists progress
in their careers, they are inevitably taking our grassroots program to greater
heights. It is also inevitable that as we become better known, we'll continue
to attract concerned artists who have already achieved greater visibility
in their careers. (Remember: artists who are already taking action annually
to help end hunger, can simply add their actions to our network.)
On that note - We'd like to welcome Rusted Root as 1 of 52 representing
the great state of Pennsylvania! This is an extremely socially conscious
bunch of folks who take it upon themselves to hold food drives at the majority
of their shows to benefit that town's food supply. And welcome to Rhode
Island's own John Cafferty. John has used his talent to support many
great causes. They now join some of our other nationally and internationally
known artists: Pete Seeger, Alan Shawn Feinstein, James Montgomery and
Paul Geremia.
