The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network
The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network Newsletter
Electronic Version
Volume 7 May 2000
Stephen M. Maciel, Editor
Hi and welcome to our seventh newsletter.
HUGE news all the way around.
If you received our last newsletter, you know we recently met and
surpassed our first goal of a minimum 52 artists permanently in place in
Rhode Island. We now have 52 artists across America. We're well on our way
to our next major goal of 52 in every state. The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network
is up and running in 13 states!
To this point I have avoided staging hunger events, instead, working to
interconnect existing events. However, it's time to have a coming out party!
On Sunday, June 4th, from 5pm to Midnight, at both Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel
and The Met in Providence, we are promoting the national kick off of
the Artist Hunger Network. It's going to be pretty special. The show
will be headlined and opened by Platinum Recording Artist John Cafferty
and the Beaver Brown Band and special guests the James Montgomery Blues
Band will play later in the eve. Other 1 of 52 artists appearing will be:
(in the Met) Glass Attic, Illustrious Day, The Mocking Birds, Screaming
under Stars, Glint, (in Lupo's) Chuck Smith and Chakulla, Ken Lyon and the
Outriders, the DJ Lauria Band, the James Montgomery Blues Band, Steve Smith
and the Nakeds. The show will be co-hosted by Rudy Cheeks and Don Lincoln.
Proceeds benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
The concert starts early at 6 but from 5 to 6 were having a very
special catered reception that I'd like to invite you all to.
This will be an opportunity for the public to 'meet and greet' the artists.
Pictures and autographs will be encouraged so bring your Polaroids! I'd
love for each and every one of you, if wherever possible, to join us at
this reception and stay for the show!
Consider this newsletter as your 'contribute if you're able' invitation.
Bring it with you to the event and show it to our volunteers as your pass
to get in. Food donations are welcome.
BONUS: All contributions up to $5,000 will be matched by the Feinstein Foundation
as part of their matching grant program for the Rhode Island Community Food
Bank!
Speaking of volunteers. If you or anyone you know would be interested in
volunteering some time that night, we are in the need of door keepers and
stage minders.
Hope to see you there!
Also... We're also looking forward to involving many other 1 of 52 artists
in upcoming events that I/We/Others are planning on staging in the future.
ie: The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network Compilation CD release events. At
least two to start, one in Providence County and one in Newport County.
These events will incorporate as many of the 12 or more artists appearing
on the upcoming (I promise!) CD. Remember, we're on a continual search for
submissions of original and interesting cover interpretations of socially
conscious songs for future editions.
Please support the 6/4 gig!
Peace, Steve.
