The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network Newsletter

Electronic Version
Volume 8 September 2001
Stephen M. Maciel, Editor

Hi and welcome to our eighth newsletter.

We're pleased to announce major progress!

We have been granted non-profit status retroactive back to 05/05/00 by the IRS and are incorporated as End Hunger Foundation, Inc. with the state of Rhode Island. For anyone who requires this information, our federal ID # is 05-0511490. Were in an 'advance ruling' period under classification 509(a)(2) pending our 501(c)(3) status.

The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network CD Volume #1 is in distribution and is critically acclaimed! You'll see the RAVE review online linked at our site.

Our most accessible distribution is online via credit card on our website. We'll be expanding the web aspect rapidly in conjunction with Alan Shawn Feinstein's site; Helpthehungry.org. (See Radio Industry press release on website.) We've been slowly gathering our participating artists for over a dozen years and are now poised to take it out to the public!

We also have 8 points of physical distribution in New England at: 2 Borders Books (Cranston, RI & N. Attleboro, MA), Richies, Soundwaves, Narragansett Disc, Looney Tunes II and Tom's Tracks in RI and a family members' very busy Richdale convenience store in Newburyport, MA. We'll be setting up just a few more select retail outlets for now. The CD's are displayed in a countertop POP with a full color topper and matching posters. (Thanks to John Fuzek.)

We staged two very successful 'soft' release events recently at Borders Books. Performing were Chuck Smith, Leo Tremblay, Small Planet Band & Folks Together. Dozens of CD's were purchased on both nights. We garnished some sweet press for the events too. (Thanks to Folks Together for hosting these events.)

A CD release event has been booked atCommon Fence Point in Portsmouth on November 17th from 8 to 10 PM. (CFP is a very prestigious folk venue.) It'll feature Mike Troy, Ed McGuirl and Voices United in Praise (this is a full choir whose members were featured on Ed's CD cut) with special guest Eddie Dillon!

In planning of the rest of the year, we have the above gig booked, and would like to have a few more low key/high profile gigs in the interim. We're also planning a blockbuster Holiday show in Providence. With enough planning, and the right help, I think we can have a major event with huge impact (please, feel free to volunteer your ideas and services).

There's also huge news on the national/ international front about music and hunger. The United Nations Food & Agriculture Org. is staging a worldwide series of concerts and releasing a CD to raise funds and awareness for world hunger. Seattle will be hosting the US concert featuring the likes of REM, Pearl Jam and many more. This will be a multi nation, multi-media event starting 10/14. We plan to coincide some 1 of 52 AHN events to ride in on some of the huge publicity these events will receive.

Speaking of publicity, please inform us (with as much advanced notice as possible) of any 1 of 52 event you may have coming up so we can post them on the site and include them in coming press releases. Also please check the Chronology of Events page on our site and send us any info on past events that may not be listed there. We like to keep a running chronology of all 1 of 52 events.

If you are receiving this newsletter as a hard copy, it means we don't have an Email address for you. If you do have one, please forward it to us. We'd much rather feed hungry people than the post office!

Peace, Steve
