Welcome to our 18th "1 of 52" Hunger Network Newsletter.

Lots of great things happening and lots more to do. Please find below two upcoming "1 of 52" affiliate events that need your attention and support. Also attached, you'll find a PDF Press Release for one of these events - a VERY significant "1 of 52" event by our fellow member Al Copley! - as well as a PDF of a "1 of 52" appeal flyer. Please share the release with your contacts and print-&-post the flyer wherever possible. Also, part of our next push is to better brand the "1 of 52" concept in the mind of America. So please be sure to identify yourselves as a proud "1 of 52" Hunger Network member wherever you feel comfortable doing so and certainly be sure to link us to your website.

On that note, allow me to re-recruit you to re-double your efforts on a couple of fronts. Please help spread the word about our hunger network. We're gearing up to take it to the next level and your word-of-mouth is our best marketing tool to help us grow. Tell all your contacts, as it says on our flyer: Anyone can participate, It costs nothing to join us, 100% of all donations/actions go directly to the hunger agency of THEIR CHOICE!

We'll have more info / a press release for this upcoming event soon: In a nutshell, I represent our network on a committee called the Hunger Task Force formed by the Jonnycake Center of Peacedale and the Feinstein Center for a Hunger Free America at the University of Rhode Island. The Hunger Task Force is studying and implementing actions to help create a hunger free community in South County, RI. We are holding a special Community Hunger Awareness event on June 5th from 5:30 to 7pm on the Village Green in Peacedale, RI (rain date 6/6). It will feature a simple offering of soup served (while supplies last) in bowls painted by local middle school children as an art project and a free, special performance by the Westmorland Street Jammers, a great Classic Rock & Blues band. Visit www.jonnycakecenter.org & www.myspace.com/westmorelandstreetjammers for more details.

On the second event, we're excited to announce that Grammy nominated, internationally musician Al Copley, co-founder of Roomful of Blues, is making his July "Blues on the Beach" concert a "1 of 52" Food Drive to benefit the Bradford Jonnycake Center of Westerly, RI. here's the text of the press release:

FOR PRESS RELEASE - 04/07/08 - Contact Steve Maciel 401-368-1325

Food Drive at Al Copley's "Blues on the Beach" Concert to Benefit the Bradford Jonnycake Center

Fans of Al Copley attending his free Blues on the Beach Concert on Wednesday, July 30th, 6 to 8pm at the Westerly Town Beach are asked to bring non-perishable food items to benefit the Bradford Jonnycake Center. This center, in operation for over 35 years, operates a food pantry in the Westerly area serving over 100,000 equivalent meals yearly to low income and elderly residents.

Al Copley's action is part of his annual participation in the "1 of 52" Hunger Network, a unique grassroots network to help end hunger. Grammy nominated pianist Al Copley co-founded the American jump blues band Roomful of Blues in Westerly in 1968. After 16 years and 7 albums with Roomful, Copley relocated to Europe, where he travels and performs extensively. His live performances are characterized by their energy and acrobatic approach to piano performance. Al had this to say about his participation in the "1 of 52" Hunger Network: "I am honored to be included in this extraordinary concept based on helping those nearest home. "1 of 52" to end hunger is one of those good ideas which ensure a 100% direct contribution due to its completely voluntary and non-affiliated basis."

"1 of 52" members, each representing one of fifty-two weeks, take a minimum of one action annually to help end hunger. This self-perpetuating network is facilitated by the non-profit 501(c)(3) End Hunger Foundation of W. Greenwich, RI and is growing nationally with chapters started in 20 states. The foundation's mission is to help maximize existing hunger agencies by rallying mass grassroots support through a simple method of organization.

Join the Al Copley Band, Bradford Jonnycake Center, Town of Westerly and media sponsor 99.3FM WJZS Radio July 30th at Westerly Town Beach and support this community drive to help end hunger. Anyone interested in the cause of ending hunger is invited to join the "1 of 52" Hunger Network's grassroots movement. It costs nothing to become a member and 100% of all proceeds and actions go directly to the hunger agency of your choice. Visit http://members.aol.com/hungerzero or call 401-368-1325 to learn how you, as an individual, can make a major difference.
