On Saturday evening, April 17th at Stonington High School, Rt 1, Pawcatuck,
CT, there was a family concert featuring Harry Chapin favorites and original
songs by award winning artist Bill Pere and his LUNCH Ensemble. Proceeds
benefited area hunger groups including the WARM Shelter in Westerly, RI
and The Connecticut Food Bank of New Haven. Individuals and organizations
could also sponsor tickets for those who may not be able to afford them.
This 5th annual Harry Chapin Legacy Concert was produced by L.U.N.C.H.,
(Local United Network to Combat Hunger). LUNCH is the community service
branch of the Connecticut Songwriters Association founded in 1989 by Bill
Pere, an Official Connecticut State Troubadour. The LUNCH Ensemble consists
of a chorus of children from grades 5 through 12 hailing from several area
schools and will be accompanied by Les Julian and the Stonington Drama Group
at the April 17th event.
This event is designated as LUNCH's third annual participation in The 1
of 52 Artist Hunger Network, a grassroots network of local and national
artists, individuals and organizations dedicated to end hunger. Founded
in 1996, this program is organizing 52 artists in each state, each artist
representing one week of the year, who agree to take action annually to
help end hunger. The model program has been set up in Rhode Island and 1
of 52 Chapters have been started in 7 other states.
According to program coordinator Steve Maciel: "We are honored to
have LUNCH. as a part of our outreach and welcome artists at any level to
join us. We encouraged those interested to visit the 1 of 52 AHN website
