On Saturday, October 10th, at Waterplace Park, Providence, RI , Open
Door Records presented a free concert event announcing the launch of
their Providence based internet record store and record label. The Open
Door Web site offers music sales of established artists as well as featuring
new music from up and coming artists on their Open Door Records label. The
free concert showcased some of the artists who have signed with the label.
Local dignitaries and celebrities hosted the event including the Honorable
Mayor of Providence, Vincent A. Cianci, Jr.
This event was designated as a 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network benefit
to create awareness for this program and support the Rhode Island Community
Food Bank. Those attending the free concert are asked to bring non-perishable
food items. Other opportunities to support the food bank were presented
at the show.
The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network is an ongoing grassroots program that
is organizing 52 local and national artists in each state, each representing
one week of the year, who take action annually to help end hunger.
Open Door Records supports the 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network in a number
of ways including producing, as one of its first releases, a compilation
album of socially conscious songs. The album, titled "The Time
Is Now", is in the development stages and will benefit hunger
causes.
