On Wednesday, November 24th at The Call, 15 Elbow St., Providence
RI, national recording artists John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band
was "Singing Out For Food". Concert goers bringing nonperishable
food items and donations to the show were treated to club menu discounts.
A portion of the event's proceeds and the collected food benefited the Rhode
Island Community Food Bank. Noted philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein
also matched up to a total $100,000 to all donations made from November
15th through December 31st.
John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band designated this show as part
of their participation in The 1 of 52 Artist Hunger Network.
According to the program's spokesperson, Steve Maciel: "This is a grassroots
network of local and national artists dedicated to ending hunger. We're
organizing 52 artists in every state, each representing one week of the
year, who agree to take action annually to help end hunger."
"By John adding his name and actions to the network, we've now reached
our 1st goal of a minimum 52 artists in Rhode Island. We've also started
networks in 10 other states to date. It's inevitable that we'll soon have
52 artists in each of the 50 states. The direct actions taken by these artists,
and the example they set for their peers and public, have a measurable impact
on hunger."
Artists at all levels and of all types are encouraged to participate. Contact
